Weymouth harbour holiday cottages
Weymouth old harbour as shown in the picture is a picture postcard harbour, typical of an old English seaside resort. The two sides of Weymouth harbour have completely different characters which is understandable considering that each side was once a seperate borough. The Trinity street side of Weymouth old harbour - on the right as you look down the old harbour from the town bridge is neatly lined with colourfully painted Weymouth harbour cottages, once the homes of Weymouth fisherman, they now make extremely popular Weymouth harbour holiday lets, holiday homes and residents homes. You will also find some Weymouth harbour pubs and cafes, with many people choosing to sit out at the tables or on the harbour wall with their drinks, creating a wonderful holiday atmosphere.
Weymouth tramway
On the other side of Weymouth harbour, there are more Weymouth harbour pubs and bars, while Weymouth town is just a street away. Walking down this side of Weymouth old harbour, you will notice the old Weymouth tramway lines - though the trains are long gone, the lines still exist, giving hope that one day the Weymouth tramway may be used once more.
Weymouth harbour guesthouses and wonderful views
Walking on along the old harbour, as you get further towards the sea, you will notice the back terraces of many of the Weymouth harbour guest houses and hotels - that face Weymouth seafront from the front and Weymouth harbour from the rear. As you walk, take in the beautiful views across the water, look out for the colourful rows of Weymouth harbour cottages along Trinity street, Cove Row and Nothe Parade, the Weymouth lifeboat and the Nothe Fort. You will also notice the Weymouth harbour ferry steps where you can catch the Weymouth harbour ferry - a rowboat ride from one side of the harbour to the other.
Weymouth harbour fishing and Channel island trips from Poole
This side of the harbour is also where many of the Weymouth fishing boats unload their daily catches, you can see the many baskets of crabs and fish and the fishermen measuring and inspecting their catches. Visiting tall ships tend to moor up on this side of the harbour and it is also where the old Weymouth Channel Islands Ferry used to dock - trips to the Channel Islands can still be taken from the nearby Poole harbour. You may notice that this is the side that the visiting motor cruisers tend to moor up while the sailing yachts moor up on the other side of the harbour.
Weymouth pleasure pier
Walking on a little further, will bring you to Alexandra gardens - now an amusement arcade and offering some fairground rides including the Weymouth carousel of galloping horses and refreshments. The Weymouth pavilion is also nearby and the start of Weymouth pleasure pier - the pleasure pier gives a walk with great views across Weymouth bay, from here you can see the Osmington White horse and as far out as the cliffs towards Lulworth. The pleasure pier is also one of the favourite places to fish from Weymouth harbour.
