Church Ope Cove beach was once a sandy beach but is now covered in small stones of various sizes that have been left by years of Portland quarrying. A small stream runs through these stones down to the sea. The picture here shows some of the simple beach huts that are scattered around at Church Ope Cove. The beach itself is only accessible by descending the steps from the cliffs above. Looking up from Church Ope Cove you will see the ruined gatehouse of the 15th century Bow and Arrow castle, the oldest castle on Portland.
