A picture of Weymouth Marina
Weymouth harbour bridge in its current form has connected the two sides of Weymouth harbour since 1930, replacing a number of earlier bridges - a plaque on the bridge states that the original bridge was of wooden construction, built in 1597, to complete the unification of the two ancient boroughs of Weymouth and Melcombe Regis by Elizabeth 1st in 1571. This Weymouth photo is taken from the Weymouth town bridge looking away from Weymouth old harbour to Weymouth marina.

Weymouth Marina

The Weymouth marina picture is taken from Weymouth harbour town bridge showing the marina at sunset. Weymouth town bridge lifts regularly daily. Weymouth marina today is full of boats ranging from simple day boats to multimillion pound yachts, commercial Weymouth fishing boats and charter boats. You can walk all the way around Weymouth marina, from the Chapelhay side of the town bridge, you can walk alongside the harbour wall to the other end of Weymouth marina where you can cross the bridge and carry on back around the other side where you will see a lot of the Weymouth fishing boats and the old Weymouth harbour train line, coming back to Weymouth town bridge and carrying onto Weymouth old harbour where you will eventually come to Weymouth pleasure pier and the Pavillion.

Radipole Lake nature reserve

Instead of crossing the bridge at the back of Weymouth marina you can carry on around the backwater - a popular place for the swans, it is also used to sail model boats. Walking on a little further, you will enter the Radipole lake nature reserve, here you can walk along the walkways through the lake and see the abundance of wildlife that live on the Radipole nature reserve. Radipole lake is one of the free Weymouth attractions - an excellent idea if you are looking for things to do in Weymouth for free, open all year round, the nature reserve has footpaths through the lakes reeds where you can see all sorts of birds and other animals. The Radipole lake footpaths also have useful information boards and places to sit at convenient places around the reserve.

More free things to do in Weymouth for nature lovers

If you enjoy nature and your looking for more free things to do in Weymouth then why not take a walk around the Nothe gardens at the other end of Weymouth old harbour, full of wildlife. Also worth a visit is the nearby Newtons cove that runs along the edge of the Nothe gardens.
